Day of Action Against Video Surveillance

World-Wide Actions Against Increasing Surveillance Planned

The American Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has called for a world-wide day of action against increasing technical and visual surveillance to take place on Friday 7 September 2001.

The EFF says that the rights of social outsiders are vulnerable to attack from the new form of automated surveillance. In Germany, video systems have also been installed at train stations, street intersections, shopping areas, and buildings.

The actions are organized on the local level and will take place in front of webcams so that interested people around the world can watch them.

One can find a list of actions in Germany at Aktuelle Kamera -- the name ["Current Camera"], not coincidentally, is a well-known news programme . . . .
