from Guy Debord

To the journal La Tour de feu[1]
7 May 1956
Sirs:

Having become aware of the questionnaire that is part of the inquiry that La Tour de feu “believes to be necessary and urgent” to conduct into the relations between painting and poetry at the heart of a revolution that the “unfigured” would effect, we will not surprise anyone by avowing that this inquiry doesn’t appear to us to have any response.

But despite this, we believe it would be useful to thinking that is obviously more mystified than mystifying if you were to meditate upon these subjects: what relations can one establish between your questions and intelligence, even one that is hardly advanced? Between your vocabulary and the French language? Between your existence and the XXth century?

For the Lettrist International,
G.-E. Debord, Gil J Wolman

[1] Concerning its inquiry into “the revolution of the unfigured.”
